William Henry Martin, age 72, born on June 13, 1952, in Haywood County, passed away peacefully at his home in Stanton, TN, on May 18, 2025. A memorial Visitation to celebrate William's life will be held at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM and concluding at 2:00 PM.
A dedicated worker for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 35 years, William made his mark operating heavy equipment, with a particular fondness for the backhoe, which he often referred to as his favorite piece of equipment. In addition to his work, William had a passion for outdoor activities, enjoying deer hunting, riding horses, fishing, riding in the boat, and running bank poles. These hobbies brought him closer to nature and allowed him to create lasting memories with his family.
Throughout his life, William was cherished for his unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Martin, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. He is also survived by three sons, Paul Martin, John Martin, and Travis Martin; one daughter, Tina Ferguson; three brothers, Gary Lynn Martin, David Ray Martin, and John Daniel Martin; and two sisters, Joyce Sharp and Betty Jean Smith. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and happiness.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Margaret Martin, Sr., as well as his brothers Richard Martin and Percy Martin, Jr., and sister Faye Kee. He also mourned the loss of a grandchild, Brooklyn Ferguson.
William Henry Martin will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, whose legacy of dedication and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. The family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
