Virginia Waddell Davis

August 2, 1937 — June 12, 2025

Virginia Waddell Davis, age 87, a cherished member of her family and community, was born on August 2, 1937, in Stanton, TN. She embraced life with a spirit grounded in love and faith, passing away peacefully on June 12, 2025, in Jackson, TN. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Brownsville Memorial Gardens.

Virginia dedicated her career to public service as a Deputy Clerk in the Haywood County Clerk's Office. Her commitment to her work and her attention to detail earned her the respect and admiration of those who worked alongside her. She was a beacon of kindness and professionalism, remembered fondly by colleagues and patrons alike.

Virginia had a profound love for her family, often finding joy in spending time with them. Her life was marked by the deep bonds she fostered with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her enduring faith in the Lord was evident in all aspects of her life. Virginia's daughter, Wanda Davis McLaughlin, along with her husband Donnie, of Gallatin, TN, carries forward her legacy of love. She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Waddell (Becky) and Tommy Waddell (Sharon), and her sisters, Betty Austin Latham and Elizabeth Scott (Tony); three grandchildren, Jessica Harris (Peter), Nicole Short, Rachel Short (Daniel); and five great grandchildren, Avery, Aubrey, Rose, Hazel and Colton.

Beyond her family ties, Virginia enjoyed life's little pleasures—taking trips to Nashville, indulging in shopping adventures, and working diligently on crossword puzzles. Her love for flowers brightened her world and the hearts of those around her, symbolizing the beauty she found in everyday moments.

Virginia's family has been shaped by both love and loss. She was preceded in death by her dear parents, Lancy Cribbins and Alice Louise Smith Waddell, her husband Clifton Davis, who shared her life for 53 beautiful years, her sister Margaret Wigington, her grandchild Christopher Dan Swain, and her brother-in-law Charles Latham.

In her later years, Virginia was supported by her compassionate caregiver, Frank Deese, who provided companionship and care during a significant chapter of her life.

Pallbearers for the service will be Donnie McLaughlin, Justin Hill, Steven Waddell, Shawn Parks, Peter Harris, Daniel Lamberth, Richard Waddell.

Virginia Waddell Davis will be remembered not only for her contributions to her family and career but also for the indelible mark she left on all who had the privilege to know her. Her spirit lives on through her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her heart. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or LeBonheur Children's Hospital, 50 North Dunlap St., Memphis, TN 38103.
