Sylvia McCaleb Smith, age 91, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Sugar Creek Assisted Living Center. Graveside Services will be conducted on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. J.P. Barden officiating, at the Lower Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was born in Bradford, TN on November 17, 1932, to the late Howard J. McCaleb and Rebecca Alexander McCaleb.  Mrs. Sylvia graduated from Memphis State University, earning her teaching degree.  She was a retired schoolteacher for the Haywood County School System for over 25 years. She loved reading, especially Danielle Steele.  She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Zion Methodist Church in the Belle Eagle community. Also preceding her in death was her husband of over 62 years, Robert J. “Bobby” Smith.

Mrs. Sylvia is survived by one son, Robert J. Smith, Jr. (Barbie) of Brownsville, TN; one daughter, Rebecca S. Howard of Brownsville, TN; one sister, Dotty Jones of Knoxville, TN. She leaves a legacy of love for her two grandchildren, Kimberly Hood (Robin) and Theresa Haynes, and four great-grandchildren, Rylee Hood, Sawyer Hood, Braxton Tasker, and Bentley Haynes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Zion Methodist Cemetery Fund, c/o Ms. Howell Trottman, Treasurer, 1805 Rudolph Rd., Brownsville, TN  38012.

All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
