Russell Curlin Lea, age 93, a beloved member of his community, was born on June 26, 1931, in Haywood County. He peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Brownsville, TN, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and gentle spirit that will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. Burial will follow at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.

Curlin dedicated a significant part of his life to his career as an over-the-road truck driver for Ryder, where he proudly achieved special recognition for driving one million miles accident-free. His commitment to safety and excellence remained a hallmark of his professional life.

In addition to his career, Curlin served his country with honor as a member of the Army National Guard, retiring in 1969 after twenty years of dedicated service. He was a devoted member of the Brownsville Baptist Church, where he enjoyed participating in his men's Sunday School Class, connecting deeply with his faith and community.

He is survived by his son, Steven Curlin Lea (Lisa) of Jackson, TN; two grandchildren, Elliot Russell Lea (Amber) of San Antonio, TX, and William Austin Lea of Chattanooga, TN; and two great-grandchildren, Tatum Avery Lea and Camryn Elliot Lea. Curlin was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Rozell and Mary Leslie Curlin Lea, his beloved wife, Betty Jean Underwood Lea, and his son, William Russell Lea.

Pallbearers for the service will be Steven Lea, Austin Lea, Elliot Lea and David Blackwood.

Curlin will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His kind and gentle nature continues to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life. The family requests that memorials be made to the Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 544, Brownsville, TN 38012. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
