Rebecca Joan Fisher Whitaker, age 81, left this world to be with our Lord on April 4, 2024.
Joanie was born in Gadsden, TN and lived the majority of her adult life in Germantown, TN. Singer, business owner, Real Estate salesperson and volunteer for many organizations such as the Jayceettes, Boy Scouts, and church where she taught Sunday School and supported outreach programs, she was the epitome of a “go-getter”. She always thought things could be better and threw herself into her work, family and fun with abandon. She was funny and always up for an adventure or night of family card games. Joanie was also a wonderful cook and could make a gourmet meal for 10 on a moment’s notice. Always a gracious hostess, her home never lacked for a homemade dessert or two.
High School sweethearts, Joanie married Charles Whitaker Jr. of Bells, TN, in 1961. They celebrated 61 years together before Charlie passed away in October 2022. Joanie then moved to Scottsdale, AZ to be close to her daughter. She passed, holding her daughter’s hand after enduring a long, heartbreaking advancement of Parkinson’s with dementia.
Joanie is survived by son, Charles Adam Whitaker III and daughter, Alicia Whitaker Gonzalez Cotton and grandchildren: Charles Adam Whitaker IV, David Wilson Gonzalez and granddaughter, Rebecca Marie Gonzalez.
Joanie loved all flowers, but in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Parkinson’s Association. Her burial will be at Belleview Cemetery in Bells, TN on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:30 A.M., with Bro. Walter Taylor officiating, where she will be laid to rest near Charlie.
