Rebecca Smith Howard

Rebecca Smith Howard, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN.  Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Eddie Mallonee officiating.  Burial will follow at the Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 12 Noon – 1:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.  

Becky was born on August 4, 1957, in Memphis, TN to Robert and Sylvia McCaleb Smith, Sr.  She was a life-long resident of Brownsville, TN.  She loved Tennessee Volunteers football and was a huge Tony Stewart NASCAR fan.  She enjoyed her Jack Russell pets and shopping.  She retired as a Social Worker for the State of Tennessee.  She loved her family and friends dearly and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons. 

She is survived by one daughter, Theresa Anne Haynes (Glenn Swenson), two stepsons, Jason Howard (Jennifer) and Wade Howard (Tiffany) all of Brownsville, TN; one brother, Robert J. Smith, Jr. (Barbie) of Brownsville, TN, and one niece, Kimberly Smith Hood (Robin) of Medina, TN.  She also leaves a legacy of love for her two grandsons, Braxton Tasker and Bentley Haynes and two special friends, Vickie Washburn and Synthia Rogers. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny O’Neal Howard and her parents, Robert J. Smith, Sr. and Sylvia McCaleb Smith. 

Pallbearers for the service will be Braxton Tasker, Bentley Haynes, Glenn Swenson, Wade Howard, Jason Howard, and Brandon Haynes.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Beasley, Ronnie Austin, Tommy Austin, John R. Fletcher, and Darrell White. 

The family has requested Memorials be made to the Zion Methodist Cemetery Fund, c/o Mary Frances Trottman, 1805 Rudolph Rd., Brownsville, TN 38012. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
