Patty Byrd, age 72, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, in Brownsville, TN. She was born on August 12, 1954, in Camp Lejeune, NC. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home with Bro. J.P. Barden and Bro. Terry Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at the Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville, TN. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
Patty attended Jackson State Community College and went on to build her career as a Marketing Manager with Click Industries, from which she later retired. She was a devoted family woman who treasured every opportunity to be with those she loved. She enjoyed cooking with and for her family, and her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. She loved them deeply and took great joy in spending time with them. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling with her best friend, Judy. She also loved traveling with her daughter-in-law, Mechelle, to visit Kyleigh in Chattanooga.
She is survived by her sons, Chris Mullen and his wife Mechelle of Brownsville, TN, and Kent Byrd and his wife Marybeth of Triangle, VA. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Overton and his wife Lisa of Kennesaw, GA; her brother-in-law, Terry Patterson; her sister-in-law, Melinda Overton; and her granddaughters, Kyleigh Mullen and Natalie Ernzen. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Patty’s love for her family was at the center of her life, and those who knew her will remember the warmth, care, and joy she shared so freely.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert W. Overton, Sr.; her mother, Helen Gregory Overton; her brother, Robert W. Overton, Jr.; her brother, James Gregory, and his wife, Carolyn; and her sister, Bonnie Patterson.
Pallbearers for the service will be Nathan Patterson, Gary Patterson, Bill Currie, Brandon Barker, Michael Patterson and Everett Mask.
Patty will be remembered with love for her deep devotion to family, her generous heart, and the happiness she found in simply being with the people she loved most. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
