Mary Evelyn Curtis, age 92, passed away on June 16, 2025, at the Alamo Nursing Home in Alamo, TN. She was a beloved figure in her family and community, long remembered for her sweet disposition and the warmth she brought to those around her.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Eddie Martin officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Trinity Cemetery in the Nutbush community. Visitation will be held on June 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
She was born on June 4, 1933, in Frog Jump, TN, in Crockett County. She had a zest for life that was evident in her simple joys. She loved going to yard sales, always on the lookout for a good bargain, and had a particular fondness for eating fish and seafood. Her family meant the world to her, and she cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Leek of Jackson, TN; daughters, Angela Kennedy of Alamo, TN, and Vickie Martin of Brownsville, TN; along with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Mary Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Curtis; her parents, Marion and Rose Bell Adcox; her brother, James Adcox; and her sister, Carmen Staggs.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jerry Martin, Bucky Stephenson, Tristan Coleman, Winston Davis, Tré King, and Austen Commander. The family has requested memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
