Martha H. Jones

Martha H. Jones, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home on September 24, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on April 15, 1933, in Brownsville, TN, in the Wellwood Community. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home with Bro. Chris Garner and music provided by Bro. Grover Westover. Entombment will follow at Brownsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.

Martha lived a life of faith, devotion, and deep connection to the community she loved. She loved the Lord and took great pleasure in teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years at Holly Grove Baptist Church. Her care for others was also reflected in her long service as the writer of the Holly Grove News for the States Graphic for more than 30 years, sharing the happenings and stories of the Holly Grove community with warmth and dedication. In addition to her community writing, she was also the author of two books.

She found joy in the simple and beautiful gifts of life. Martha loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers, and gardening. Above all, her love for her family was immeasurable, and she cherished every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Alan Jones and his wife, Debbie, and by her daughter, Lorie Jones. She also leaves six beloved granddaughters: Julie Jones Hopkins and her husband, Heath; Heather Jones Bolinger and her husband, Ryan; Tiffanie Collins and her husband, Steven; Jessica Byrd and her husband, Brent; Amanda Tritt and her husband, Thomas; and Jennifer Stephens. Her legacy continues in the lives of her fourteen great-grandchildren, Hayden Hopkins, John Hopkins, Hazel Hopkins, Jack Hopkins, Jensen Bolinger, Grey Bolinger, Dylan Byrd, Gunner Byrd, Kyle Collins, Kylee Collins, Ford Collins, Lydia Tritt, Emma Tritt, and Gabriel Tritt. Each of them was part of the great joy of her life, and she loved them dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Dewey Jones; her father, Samuel Alan Herbert; her mother, Ida Lee Livingood Herbert; her grandson, Mark Stephens; her brothers, Albert Brown, Bryant Brown, George Brown, and Neal Herbert; and her sisters, Mildred Booth, Mae Hight, Oma Garrett, and Ottie Simpson.

Pallbearers will be Heath Hopkins, John Hopkins, Ryan Bolinger, Jensen Bolinger, Steven Collins, Brent Byrd, Dylan Byrd and Thomas Tritt.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Truthseekers Class of Holly Grove Baptist Church.

Martha H. Jones will be remembered for her faithful spirit, her love of family, her service to her church and community, and the kindness she shared through the years. Her life leaves a lasting imprint on all who knew and loved her.
