Martha Jean Fowler, aged 81, of Brownsville, Tennessee, was called home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2024. Born on October 29, 1942, to the late David and Okie Glissen in Lauderdale County, TN. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
A woman of faith, Martha was a member of Mercer Baptist Church. Her spirit was vibrant and indomitable, with an intensity that was only rivaled by the love and devotion she held for her family. Known for her sense of humor and characteristic stubbornness, Martha had a profound impact on all that knew her.
Martha devoted her professional life to early childhood education as a partner in the Montessori School of Brownsville until 1992. Later, she became the proprietor of a home daycare, where she dedicated her life to the growth and development of her “kids”, whom she cared for as if they were her own.
Martha found joy in many simple pleasures such as Xbox bowling against her grandkids, assembling puzzles, sewing, shopping, and fishing in her pond. As an amateur photographer and avid scrapbooker, she captured many precious (and sometimes rather embarrassing) moments over the years and created lasting memories for many.
She leaves behind her loving daughter, Kristi Snowden; son-in-law, Jim Snowden; her adored grandchildren, Julia and Caleb Snowden; her brothers, Lesslie Glissen (Brenda) and Terry Glissen; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who all revered her. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Fowler; her son, Wes Fowler; and her siblings, Charles Glissen, Mary Martin, Joe Glissen, John Glissen, and Margie Brogdon.
Pallbearers for the service will be Keith Watson, David Fowler, Taylor Outlaw, Patrick Littlejohn, Bradley Jones, and Ricky Goodman.
As we celebrate the life of Martha Fowler, we take solace in knowing that her legacy of love, unstoppable spirit, and her commitment to her family and community will continue to inspire us all.
