Mamie Sue Watson, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on October 22, 1948, in Brownsville, TN, Mamie Sue dedicated her life to family, community, and service. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Mamie Sue's family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her life and legacy. Visitation will be held at the Brownsville Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place the following day, Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM, in the Harmony Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. Jon Bell and Bro. Grover Westover. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Hillville, TN.

Mamie Sue devoted 42 years to food services within the Haywood County Schools, making an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and families through her culinary talents and warm-hearted nature. In addition to her role in food services, she also spent 14 years as a bus driver for the same school system, showcasing her commitment to the education and wellbeing of children in her community.

Family was at the heart of Mamie Sue's life. She was married to her devoted husband, Lawrence Edward Watson, for 62 wonderful years. Together, they built a loving home where Mamie flourished in her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son, James Edward Watson (Rebecca) of Brownsville, TN; her daughters, Susan Denise Moody (Charlie) of Brownsville, TN, and Peggy Jean Maxie (Scott) of Sandhill, MS; as well as her bonus daughters, Janet Edmonds (Tony), Anita Berry (Tom), and Debra Rogers (Richard). She also leaves behind a cherished legacy through her grandchildren: Charles Moody (Sunnie), Ryan Watson (Haley), Amber Moody, Amanda Watson (Tate Welch), Mystica Maxie, and Alease Maxie, and her great-grandchildren, Kasey, Remington, and Waylon Moody. She also leaves behind one brother, James Elrod, Whiteville, TN and two sisters, Nadine Crook, Collierville, TN and Elizabeth Norwood, Texas. 

Mamie Sue enjoyed cooking for her family and took great joy in sharing her culinary creations with the people in her community. Her food was not just nourishment; it was an expression of love and care that brought people together.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mamie Dell Moore Elrod, and ten brothers and sisters. Additionally, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Maxie.

Pallbearers for service are Tony Edmonds, Tom Berry, Chris McBride, Paul Benard, Roger Cowan and Matthew Edmonds.  Honorary Pallbearer is Richard Rogers.

Mamie Sue Watson will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.  The family requests that memorials be made to Poplar Corner Baptist Church, 1010 Boyd Ave., Brownsville, TN  38012 or to Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o Carol Edmonds, 3050 Hillville Rd., Whiteville, TN  38075.  All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
