Kirby O. Powell

Kirby O. Powell, age 69, a resident of Medina, TN, passed away at West TN Healthcare North in Jackson, TN, on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Funeral Services for Mr. Powell will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 3:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home Chapel in Brownsville, TN, with Dr. Brent Lay officiating. Burial will follow at the Allen Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.

Kirby was born on March 22, 1955, in Brownsville, TN, to Bill Nash Powell and Bettye Gray Kirby Powell. He worked as a Truck Driver and a Motor Coach Driver. Kirby had many endeavors in his lifetime, and the one he most enjoyed was putting smiles on the faces of children, especially at Christmas.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Powell of Medina, TN; two sons, Kirby Nash Powell (Ginger) of Humboldt, TN and James Patrick Powell (Stephanie) of Humboldt, TN; two brothers, Mark S. Powell (Cathy) of Jackson, TN and B. Brannon Powell (Elise) of Brownsville, TN.  He also leaves a legacy of love for his five grandchildren, Owen Powell; Edie Powell, Abby Powell, Brody Powell and Kaylee Powell. He also had a special place in his heart for his dog, Gunner.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Nash Powell and Betty Gray Powell; one brother, Christopher N. Powell.  

Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Powell, Brannon Powell, Ray Poole, Allen Eubanks, Scott Pipkin, and Fred Moore.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Johnson and Bill Ezell. 

The family has requested memorials be made to Allen Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Diane Presley, 142 Chestnut Drive, Brownsville, TN 38012 or to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, Attn: Dianne Johnson, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
