Joyce Lavern Staggs Young

Joyce Lavern Staggs Young, age 83, a resident of Stanton, TN, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, TN. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. 

Joyce was born on April 1, 1941, to Commodore Perrey Staggs and Niarncie (Nancy) Young in East Prairie, MO.  She and her late husband were owners of the Sonic Drive-In business in Somerville, TN for many years, from which she later retired. She loved quilting, gardening, flowers, foraging, genealogy, and writing. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. 

She is survived by one son, Leslie Young, Jr. of Stanton, TN; one daughter, Norma Wrenne (Chris) of Memphis, TN; two brothers, Kenneth Staggs (Betty) of Hillville Community and Bobby Price (Debbie); one sister, Sherry Price of Mississippi. She leaves a legacy of love for her three grandchildren, Luc Preston Young, Rachel Lynn Young, and Kenny Young (Beth), and two great-grandchildren, Carter Young and Cana Young. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Allen Young, Sr.; one son,  Kenneth Lynn Young; one brother, Billy Staggs, Sr.; two sisters, Martha Jean Kelly and Teddy Marie Kiewiet, and one grandchild, Ashlynn Opal Elaine Young. 

Pallbearers for the service are Chris Wrenne, Josh Chandler, Peewee Taylor, Leslie Young, Luc Young, and Kenny Young.

The family has requested memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
