Jessie E. Choate Whittington, a cherished resident of Brownsville, TN, peacefully passed away on June 1, 2026, at Haywood Community Hospital in Brownsville. Born on April 22, 1939, in Linden, TN, Jessie’s life spanned over eight remarkable decades marked by enduring grace and steadfast dedication to her community and loved ones.
Her visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home. This gathering will offer an opportunity for family, friends, and all who were touched by her presence to pay their respects and celebrate her life. The funeral service will follow immediately at 1:00 PM, at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home, with Bro. Eddie Mallonee and Bro. Jon Bell officiating. Following the service, Jessie will be laid to rest at Holly Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Because family was so important to her, she took great pride in loving and caring for her family as a homemaker. She was a faithful member of Poplar Corner Baptist Church in Brownsville. She loved country music and gospel music and was inspired by listening to music. She loved the Lord and lived a life of faith each day. One thing she and her husband enjoyed through the years was going out to eat at various restaurants. She also liked to watch HGTV. Jessie will long be remembered for her loving and caring spirit.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Crutcher (Rusty) of Cordova, TN; two sons, Steven Whittington of Brownsville, TN and Kevin R. Whittington of Knoxville, TN; one grandson, John Russell Crutcher, II, and one sister, Nettie Choate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Whittington, who passed away in 2024; her parents, John and Addie Choate; three brothers, Willie Choate, Eddie Choate, Kyle Choate; two sisters, Johnie Choate and Ann Gibson.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Holly Grove Baptist Church, Cemetery, 8488 Poplar Corner Rd., Bells, TN 38006.
Throughout her life, Jessie embodied qualities of love, dignity, and grace, attributes that will resonate deeply with those who knew her. Her impact remains timeless, a lasting imprint on the hearts of her community. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
