Jack Ray Fletcher

August 3, 1931 — February 17, 2021

Jack Ray Fletcher, age 89, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in Alexandria Place in Jackson, Tennessee. His funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 22, 2021 in the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Chuck Pittman and Bro. Grover Westover officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, February 22, 2021 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home. Jack Fletcher was a charming southern gentleman who was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He promoted and sold “RED PAINT” with a passion and was a successful businessman. He had the gift of hospitality as he entertained with his wife of 66 years, Margaret Ann and eloquently used “Darlin” with his southern Brownville twang! (no “S” in Brownsville). He met you with a warm hug and kiss on the cheek. He had a colorful personality that lit up a room when he entered. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed time at their cabin on the Tennessee River on Haywood Hill. His servant heart made working along side him at social events an inspiration. From promoting agriculture, frying catfish, Christian ministry, and doting on family, Jack had a genuine passion for others. Jack cared for his wife, Margaret Ann for 10 years when Alzheimer’s robbed them of their normal life. He set the bar high for all marriages to practice, “For better or worse, in sickness and in health.” He fully lived his life of commitment to Margaret Ann as he fed her every meal, watched Wheel of Fortune, and kissed her goodnight. The last person she recognized was Jack, her angel. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ann Fletcher, his parents, Walter Frank Fletcher and Alma Turner Fletcher, brothers, Frank Fletcher Jr., William (Sonny) Fletcher, sisters, Martha Fletcher, Barbara McGary, Jessie Bonds and his twin sister, Jean Quick, one great grandchild, John Rob Byrd. He is survived by three daughters, Peggy Byrd (Jerry), Phyllis Pritchett (Lee), Susan Hinson (Rick), eight grandchildren, Carl Byrd (Cindi), Tiffinie Henry (Carey), Mary Margaret Chester (John), Rob Byrd (Clair), Bryan Byrd (Laura), Holt Pritchett (Jenny), Jessica Chaney (Peter), Maggie Reinhard (Nathan), 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers for the service are Carl Byrd, Rob Byrd, Bryan Byrd, Holt Pritchett, John Chester and Lake Chester. Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Baird, Allen King, Robert Mitchell, David Overton, George Pritchett, French Richards, John Simmons, Robert Earl Thornton, Jimmie Tyson and Bobby Williams. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Grove UMC (Tara Joyner, P.O.Box 1553 Brownsville, TN 38012), Reelfoot Rural Ministry (6923 Minnick Eldridge Road Obion, TN 38240), or the donation of your choice.
