Gray Junior Mayfield, age, 88, a devoted husband, father, brother, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on September 12, 1937, in Olefield, Tennessee, Gray’s life spanned 88 remarkable years filled with dedication to his work, his family, and the interests that brought him joy.

Throughout his lifetime, Gray was known for his steadfast work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence in all he did. He spent many productive years as a tool and die setter at Duo-Therm, earning a reputation for his reliability and precision. Later, his leadership qualities shone in his more than two decades with Cub Cadet, where he served as a Union Director. Colleagues admired his seriousness when it came to his work and his tools, yet also remembered his sharp sense of humor that lightened even the busiest days.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gray cherished spending time in nature. He found solace and contentment fishing on quiet waters, sharing laughter around campfires, and tending to his garden with care and pride. These passions spoke to his appreciation for hard work and the simpler pleasures of life.

Above all, Gray was deeply devoted to his family. He loved his family and his grandchildren dearly, finding happiness and purpose in their company and achievements. Those who knew him best will remember his warmth, his wit, and the gentle strength he offered in times both challenging and joyful.

Gray is survived by his beloved wife of over 69 years, Lorena Mae Kirkland Mayfield; his son, Gary Mayfield (Gayla); his daughter, Cheryl Gurley (Tony); his brother, Robert Eugene Mayfield (Margaret Sue); and his sister, Linda Sue Scott (Jerry); 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
