Gloria Clinton Escue Joyner, age 76, a lifelong resident of Brownsville, TN, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Alamo Nursing Home, where she spent her final year. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Joe Pettigrew officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Brownsville, TN. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church.
Gloria was born on May 12, 1950, in Brownsville to the late John and Ruby Clinton. A woman of great warmth and creativity, she devoted much of her life to raising her two sons, pouring her heart into her family and her home.
In addition to her dedication as a mother, Gloria was a gifted artist who poured her imagination into creating all kinds of arts and crafts. She especially loved scrapbooking and decorating, bringing beauty into the spaces around her. In the mid-1980s, she channeled her creative passions into launching her own brand, designs by glo, where she focused primarily on designing and crafting beautiful, handmade jewelry. Beyond her artistic talents, Gloria had a deeply compassionate heart and found true fulfillment in caring for others throughout her life. Gloria was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brownsville.
Pallbearers for the service are Dash Edmiston, Tim Stokely, James Hathcock, Bob Bond, Bob Gaston, Denver Clinton and James Escue.
Honorary Pallbearers are Hurst Clinton, Jason Cannon and Lee Stokely.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Clinton and Ruby Funderburk Clinton; her sister, Joy Clinton; and her brother, James Philip Clinton.
Gloria leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and devotion. Her memory lives on in her husband, Glenn Joyner; her two sons, James Eric Escue and his wife Ashley of Germantown, TN, and John Milton Escue and his wife Rei of Brownsville, TN. She was expecting her first grandchild in August of 2026. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Clinton Stokely of Brownsville, TN; her brother, J.D. Clinton and his wife Mary Susan of Naples, FL; and a large community of extended family and friends who will miss her deeply. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
