Georgia Grayce Elizer, age 96, departed this life on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the Sugar Creek Senior Living Community in Brownsville, TN. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at the Bells First United Methodist Church in Bells, TN with Barry Presley and Rev. Susie Riley officiating. Burial will follow at the Bellevernon Cemetery in Friendship, TN. Visitation for the family and friends will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Bells First United Methodist Church in Bells, TN.
Georgia Grayce Elizer was born on July 13, 1928, in Friendship, TN to George W. Walker and Alma Grayce Jones Walker. She taught for 38 years in the school systems of Crockett and Haywood County. She was graduate of Haywood High School in Brownsville, TN. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lambuth College in Jackson, TN and her Master of Library Sciences degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. In 1982, she was named the Tennessee High School Journalism Teacher of the Year.
She was a member of the Bells Garden Club since 1960, a Life Member of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, and active in Friends of the Library. She is a former 4-H Club volunteer leader and was an active church musician since her teenage years.
She is survived by her son, Warren Elizer (Jennifer) of Union City, NJ; son-in-law, Keith Phelps of Covington, TN; grandchildren, Dustin Tyler Phelps (Allison), Catherine Grace Phelps Donahoo (Chris), and Christopher Hastings Elizer (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Georgianne, Molly Kate and Charley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Elizer; daughter, Grace Elizer Phelps; her parents, George and Alma Grayce Walker.
Pallbearers for the service are Phillip Cobb, Owen Cobb, Brian Skelton, Gene Warren Bridges, David Clement and Jordan East. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Bells Garden Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Elizer-Jones Scholarship Fund, Crockett County High School, 2014 HWY 88, Alamo, TN 38001. All arrangements are services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
