Eva Jane Hight

June 9, 1935 — March 4, 2023

Memphis, TN

Jane Hight, 87, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 4, 2023.

Jane (Barcroft) was born and raised in Brownsville, TN. She graduated from Haywood High School, where she met, and then married, the love of her life James (Jimmy) Hight. After marriage, they made their home in Memphis. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this past Christmas. Jane modeled being a godly wife, mother, Nana and friend.

Jane retired from South Central Bell after 35 years of outstanding and devoted service.  She soon decided retirement was not for her, and she began a second career (10 plus years) with Lakeside Hospital, Cordova Psychological Counseling, and Dr. Jim Pang. Following her second retirement, she began working again, for Dr. John Black. At the time of her death, she was still working two Saturdays each month.

Jane was a true prayer warrior.  You could find her first thing, every morning, studying God’s word and in prayer for her family and friends.  She was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, serving and loving others for 65 years.

Jane was an avid sports fan.  She loved St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Memphis Grizzlies, UT football, and Memphis Tigers football and basketball.  Her greatest sports love though was watching her grandsons play sports when they were growing up, and then her great-grandsons.  Watching their games was the joy of her life.

Jane is survived by her devoted husband Jimmy Hight; her daughter Paula Hill and her husband Jeff; her grandson Nathan Hill and his wife Laura; her grandson Jordan Hill and his wife Ashley; and her five great-grandchildren James, Cooper, Jack, Knox and Piper (the first girl in the family and named after her - Piper Jane).  She also leaves behind her sister-in-love and best friend, Betty Jones, and many other family members who she adored.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Louise Barcroft, as well as other family members. What a reunion they are having!

We will celebrate her life well lived on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN.  Visitation will be from 11:00AM -12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4459 Willow Rd, Memphis, TN 38117. All services and arrangements are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
