David E. Mathias

David E. Mathias, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Jackson. He was born on November 24, 1951, in Lincoln, Illinois, and will be remembered as a wonderful man whose life was marked by faith, steady work, and the simple joys he loved most.

Mr. David devoted his working life to the Rockwell Company, later known as Porter Cable and finally Black N Decker in Jackson, Tennessee. After many years of faithful service, he retired from Black N Decker. He was also a man who found happiness in the things that made life personal and memorable. He was known for his “Monster” of a garden, enjoyed joking around and fishing. Those who knew him also knew his love for trading cars, something he did every two years without fail and with great enjoyment. At the center of David’s life was his faith. He was a Child of God and served as a deacon at Ward's Grove Baptist Church of Law Road in Jackson, Tennessee. His life reflected that devotion, and he leaves behind the memory of a man whose presence was a blessing to those around him.

He is survived by his nieces, Sheri Grace Martin and Kendra Seward; his nephews, Kerri Seward, Keith Seward and his wife Letha; his great-niece, Krystal Watkins, and her husband, Cody; his great-nephew, Matthew Evans; his great-great-niece, Claire Watkins; and by many extended family members, his church family, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 39 years, Deborah (Debbie) Lay Mathias; his father, David B. Mathias; his mother, Francis Butler Bledsoe; his brother Robert Seward and his nephew, Kenneth Seward.

David’s life was one of faith, hard work, and familiar joys. He will be remembered with love for the way he lived, for the people he cherished, and for the lasting impression he made on family, church, and friends.
