Danny B. Simpson, 85, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 4, 2025. He was at his home in Brownsville, TN, surrounded by his wife, family members, friends and caregivers.
Danny was born in Brownsville, TN on January 23, 1940, to J.B. Simpson and Lucille Colvett Simpson.
He was a second-generation building contractor who meticulously designed and constructed hundreds of beautiful homes in the West Tennessee area. He also served his country in the National Guard for four years.
Danny was a devoted follower of Christ and a faithful member of Poplar Corner Baptist Church. He had a beautiful voice and used his gift for God’s glory. He regularly sang solos and duets with his wife, Brenda, and occasionally sang with his girls. Danny also sang in the men’s quartet at Poplar Corner and for many years led the music for the church’s worship services.
He served as a member of the Poplar Corner Sanctuary Choir, Sunday School Class, and on various committees. He was instrumental in the building of the Poplar Corner Family Life Center and gymnasium. He also served as a Gideon.
Danny was kind, generous, warm, and had a wonderful sense of humor. In fact, he often pulled mischievous pranks on friends and family to inspire a good laugh.
He loved people; he loved life; and he lived it to the fullest. Danny enjoyed horseback riding, playing church league basketball, and riding dirt bikes with his boys and friends. He also loved spending time at the river, water skiing and boating with family and friends.
In his retirement years, Danny loved watching the grandchildren and great grandchildren swim, watching westerns, and sharing breakfast with his buddies at Jimmy’s.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a dear friend to many. Danny was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Lucille Simpson, his sister, Peggy Simpson Castellaw and his brother-in-law, Billy Castellaw.
He is survived by his loving wife, of 54 years, Brenda Haynes Simpson; his children, Rita Simpson Alexander (Wayne), Vickie Simpson Bonawitz (Kelley), Chad Simpson (Leah), Vaughan Kirby (Hannah); his grandchildren, Casey Bonawitz, Brent Bonawitz (Hayley), Blake Simpson (Morgan), Blair Simpson-Simmons (Grant), Kody Alexander (Shayla), Chance Alexander, Miles Kirby (Sydni), Haynes Kirby and Elizabeth Kirby; and great grandchildren, Molly Everett Simpson, Baker Simpson, Layne Alexander and Lilly Alexander.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to his devoted caregivers: Alma Kate Watkins, Brenda Adams, Claudette Bradford, Sandrie McNeal and Tracy Merrick Tims.
