Carol Glover Bruce

Carol Glover Bruce, age 95, a resident of Byhalia, MS, departed this life on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. Alan McCall officiating. Entombment will follow at the Brownsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation for family and friends will be held on August 28, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. 

Carol Glover Bruce was born on August 8, 1929, in Eads, TN. She was a vital part of the fabric of Brownsville and Haywood County serving for 30 years as the City Clerk and City Recorder. She was very active in the Brownsville and Haywood County Chamber of Commerce, where she helped establish the Ambassador Program of which she was an original member. She was in the Memphis Chapter of the Women of Moose in 1976, and she chartered the Brownsville Chapter of Women of Moose in 1984. She was a leader among leaders in the Women of Moose where she received the Academy of Friendship in 1978, her College of Regents in 1983, and her Star Recorder in 1986. In June of 1989, she became Deputy Grand Regent for the State of Tennessee. She also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Loyal Order of Moose. 

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Barnes (James) of Byhalia, MS; two brothers, Bill Glover and Bobby Glover; two sisters, Sherry Carothers (Hoyte), and Christine Glover; one sister-in-law, Sandra Glover; one grandchild, Dean Barnes and one great-grandchild, Archer Barnes. 

 She was preceded in death by, her husband of 64 years, Jordan Bruce; one son, Randall Bruce; her parents, Ewing Wesley Glover and Mamie Louise Pennington Glover; two brothers, James Glover and Donald Glover and one sister, Evelyn Glover. 

Pallbearers for the service will be Danny Watson, Ronald Bruce, David Glover, Kenny Glover, Butch Williams, and Chip Glover. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial be made to the Mt. Pleasant Community Church, 315 Mt. Pleasant Road, Whiteville, TN 38075. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
