Bonnie Jean Phillips Ott

Bonnie Jean Phillips Ott, 97, of Somerville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026.

Bonnie was born on December 18, 1928, in Spring Hollow Township, near Long Lane, Missouri, to the late Virgil Alexander Phillips Sr. and Vina Evans Phillips. Throughout her life, Bonnie lived in several different communities, but no matter where she was, she always surrounded herself with the people she loved most.

Those who knew Bonnie will remember her for her quick wit, generous heart, and the way she could make just about anyone feel like family. She found joy in the simple things in life-singing, getting lost in a good book, browsing thrift shops, family gatherings, and, of course, enjoying a hot, strong cup of coffee. Her family was her greatest joy, and she treasured every opportunity to have everyone together. She also loved a good, long conversation on the phone with the people she loved. Whether she was sharing a story, catching up with someone she cared about, or simply enjoying their company, Bonnie had a way of making people feel loved and remembered.

Bonnie is survived by her daughters, Patrice Tapp (Raymond) of Somerville, Tennessee, and Karen McGaa (Kyle) of Bellingham, Washington; grandchildren Derek Ott (Gina), Molly Ott, Aimee Watkins (Andrew), Karley Sandy, Mariah Fussell, Chris Ott, Zach Ott, Bennett Ott (Camilla), Amelia Mendenhall (Tyson), and Corbin Mendenhall (Kyndria); 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her bonus children, Cathy Klassen (Phil) and Jim Ott (Denise); her daughter-in-law, Sonja Bennett (Mike); her nieces, nephews, and many other family members and loved ones who were blessed to call her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Edward “Rudy” Ott Sr.; her parents, Virgil and Vina Phillips; her brothers, Lon Phillips, Glen Phillips, Hoford Phillips, Waborn Phillips, and Virgil Phillips Jr.; her sisters, Margie Gross, Melba Sneed, and Joann Bjorland; and her beloved sons, Rudolph Edward “Eddie” Ott Jr. and Michael William “Mike” Ott.

The family finds comfort in knowing that Bonnie is now reunited with so many of the people she loved and missed throughout her life. Though we know she is finally where she has been ready to be for a long time, her absence leaves a space in our hearts that cannot be filled. We will miss her more than words can say, but we are so thankful for the memories she gave us, the love she shared with every one of us, and all of the little moments that we will carry with us forever. Her love will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the generations still to come. As Bonnie would always say, “Talk with you later, love ya babe.”

And perhaps that is the perfect way to say goodbye-not forever, but later.
