Billy Young

Billy Young, age 76, passed away peacefully, on Monday, September 21, 2026, at his home in Brownsville, TN. The family has honored his wishes for cremation and Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.

Billy was born on May 3, 1950, to Bill H. and Katherine Mosley Young in Brownsville, TN. Billy was well known in Brownsville and the surrounding counties for owning and operating Young’s Wrecker Service. He purchased Kerr McGee from his father and started his wrecker business from there. Over fifty-two years, Billy built a thriving business and worked with family members until his health no longer allowed him to actively work. It is safe to say that Billy, or one of his wreckers, probably assisted every family in Haywood County in past years. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed bass fishing and watching westerns on tv.

He is survived by his wife: Debbie Leggett Young; sons: Jerry Wayne Roberts, Daniel Stephens; daughters: Greta Young Griffin (Travis Rosson), Sherry Edwards, Marilyn Stokely (Terrell); brother: James Young (Amber); sisters: Imogene Jackson, Barbara Coburn, Regina Williams, Sherry Naylor (Carl); six grandchildren: B.J. Day (Crystal), Zach Simpson (Natalie), Logan Duncan, Taylor Stokely, Shane Stephens, Greyson Griffin; and three great grandchildren: Carleigh Day, Hughes Day and Mason Simpson.  He was preceded in death by his parents: Bill H. and Katherine Mosley Young.

Billy will be remembered for his kindness by his family, friends and customers. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
