Updated Obituary:  A Memorial Service for Mr. Bill Cox has been updated.  The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Reelfoot Lake at the Keystone Pavilion.

Billy “Bill” Wade Cox, age 72, a resident of Brownsville, TN and husband of Sheila Ann Ferge-Cox, went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, March 10, 2023, at home surrounded by family.  Bill was born on August 20, 1950, in Brownville.  He was the son of the late Edgar Earl Cox and Sarah Frances Perry Cox.  He grew up in Haywood County and graduated from Haywood High School and Jackson Vo-Tech.  He resided 10 years in California before returning to his hometown. 

Bill was an avid bass fisherman while his health permitted.  He enjoyed University of Tennessee football and basketball, as well as Atlanta Braves baseball.  He loved working in the yard, traveling, movies, concerts and spending time with his family. Bill always had an interesting story to tell about fishing, a ball game, his dog Stella, or his family. He was raised in the Church of Christ faith and was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at the time of his death.  He retired from Teknor Apex in 2012, after 30 years of service. 

Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sheila Ferge-Cox; three sons, Jon Cox Patmore (Bonnie) of Richmond VA, Jacob Cox of TX, and Joe Cox of Ft. Collins, CO; one brother, Edgar Perry Cox of Kennesaw, GA; one sister, Donna Cox Heron of Brownsville, TN; one grandson, Finn of Richmond, VA; one aunt, Jane Neal of Tyler, TX; and a special cousin and lifelong friend, Mac Perry of Brownsville, TN; He also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many wonderful friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Don Cox of Thomasville, GA and a special fur baby named Stella.

Donations to Bill’s memory may be made to the Brownsville Humane Society, c/o Alice Nunn, P.O. Box 565, Brownsville, TN 38012.  All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
